PART-2

I combed through every social media picture Ben had posted, and as luck would have it, I found exactly what I was looking for. Six months ago, Ben had broken up with his ex, Jessica. Their pictures, dating back to high school, showed they’d been together for a very long time. I sent her a friend request, and when she accepted, I wasted no time messaging her. To my surprise, she responded, and we started talking.

I was upfront with Jessica, revealing that I was Lily’s ex and explaining my plan to bring her as my date to their wedding. She seemed intrigued, asking why I was reaching out, but I laid it all out for her. Over the next few weeks, Jessica shared how Ben had cheated on her multiple times, with his latest affair being with Lily. I had no idea about this until then.

She went on to explain that Ben had always been into younger women, which is why she wasn’t surprised when he declared his love for Lily while they were still together. Their breakup had been messy, and Jessica had blocked him everywhere, despite his pleas for friendship. From the way she spoke about him, it was clear she still had feelings for him.

I also told her about my own experience with Lily—how she’d used me for years, and how she and Ben had ridiculed me. Jessica was shocked by how Lily had treated me. After hearing everything, she agreed to come with me. The thought of seeing the look on Ben and Lily’s faces when we walked into the wedding together was thrilling.

On the day of the wedding, just as I expected, Lily’s eyes widened when she saw me with Jessica. She must have recognized her as Ben’s ex immediately. We ignored her, pretending to find our seats. Lily approached me, her anger palpable. “Why are you here with Ben’s ex?” she whispered through clenched teeth. I simply smiled. She couldn’t make a scene in front of everyone, so she stormed back up the aisle, glaring at us.

When the groom made his entrance, Ben looked stunning in his black tuxedo, walking down the aisle with his father. The ceremony went smoothly, and we moved to the reception. Ben had changed into another suit, and Jessica and I kept a low profile throughout, making sure to avoid Lily’s glares and Ben’s obvious irritation. I knew Lily wanted to confront us, but she couldn’t risk ruining her own wedding.

As the toasts began, Lily couldn’t hold back anymore. She came over while everyone was distracted, forcing a smile. “What are you two doing here? Do you think you can ruin my special day?” Jessica responded before I could. “Oh, Lily, we’re not here to ruin anything. We’re here to celebrate. After all, it’s such a big day, isn’t it?”

Lily was on the verge of losing it, but I stepped in before she could say anything else. “Let’s keep up appearances, Lily. You wouldn’t want your husband to know you’re still obsessed with me, would you?” Her eyes flashed with rage, but she spun on her heel and walked back to Ben, who had no idea what was going on.

Throughout the rest of the party, Jessica and I pretended to have a great time, laughing and exchanging knowing glances. It wasn’t entirely an act. Despite everything, I was starting to enjoy her company. She was witty, sharp, and understood everything I’d been through.

Then, something unexpected happened. While we were dancing, I saw Ben approach Jessica. He was agitated, and soon, they were arguing in hushed tones. I moved closer, discreetly overhearing Ben say, “Why are you here with him? This has nothing to do with you. We’re over.”

Jessica laughed bitterly. “We’re over because you cheated on me, Ben. And now you expect me to care about who I hang out with?” I watched from a distance, seeing how unsettled Ben was, and it hit me—this was messing with his head.

That’s when I decided to turn up the heat. I grabbed a glass of champagne and walked up to the microphone. “Sorry to interrupt, everyone,” I said, my voice carrying across the room. All eyes turned to me, including Lily’s and Ben’s. “I just want to take a moment to thank the bride, Lily, for inviting me to this very special event.”

I paused, letting the tension build. “For those who don’t know me, I’m her ex. And I’m really happy to see she’s found a man who can give her the life she’s always dreamed of. By the way, Ben, congratulations on your acquisition—I mean, your marriage.”

The room fell into an uncomfortable silence. Guests exchanged nervous glances. Lily looked like she was about to cry, while Ben’s fists clenched in barely contained rage. But I wasn’t done. “I’d also like to raise a glass to honesty and transparency in a relationship.” I lifted my glass, staring directly at Ben and Lily. “May you never lack them like I did.”

I took a slow sip, smiling mockingly. Ben was furious. He slammed his glass down and stormed toward me, but a few mutual friends stepped in to hold him back before he could reach me.

“You’ve crossed the line!” he shouted. But I just smiled. “You think this is funny? You think you can ruin our day?”

I looked him straight in the eye. “I didn’t ruin anything, Ben. I’m just here to see how things go when you can’t buy someone’s respect or love.”

As Ben struggled against those holding him back, I felt a sense of satisfaction I hadn’t expected. The revenge was sweeter than I ever imagined.
